What are the top employers for architects today?

Jul 5, 5:12AM EDT18

Hi DDOUGLAS

A top employee is differently defined by different architects. Of course every Architect dreams to design big and famous buildings that are mainly designed by known companies or architecture offices like Coop Himmelb(l)au or Zaha Hadid architects. But if you start as a fresh graduated architect in such big companies you will be responsible only for some simple drawings until you reach an amount of experience. In my opinion, it is better to start in smaller company that also looks forward to use your ideas and creativity, not only your drawing skills. It really depends on what kind of work you like to do, if you are more into brainstorming, or if you are a worker who likes to get a simple task and just finish it.

What are the different types of representing models?

Jul 4, 11:15PM EDT0

There are a lot of ways of representing different models. Which one you use depends on what you want to visualize with that specific model. For example Analytic Modelling. (Please keep in mind that we are talking about visualization models and not about the mathematical Analytic Modell). What we first do in our office before starting the first drafts of a project is, the reconstruction of the building site and the surroundings on a simple 3D. In this Modell we put all the information given by the surroundings in order to see what is already provided. Another example would be an Abstract Modell. This modelling process occurs when the analysis of the building site is finished and we start with our first geometric forms and different orientations and organizations of rooms in an abstract way (No windows, no doors, no real measurements, etc. )

I hope this was helpful.

How do animators use different 3D rendering techniques?

Jul 3, 11:59PM EDT0

As far as I know animators are responsible for drawing scenes for movies. Archicad as 3D program is not suitable for a movie branch since archicad is more technically orientated than photorealistic. In Order to get more realistic renderings that can be used for Movies there are other better programs that are specialized for renderings only, like 3DSMax. Yet for an animated movie that are lower on quality it is possible to use archicad to draw different scenes, and since archicad is able to record a walkthrough through a building, it may be able to help animate movies as well.

Who is your favorite TV or movie architect, and why?

Jul 3, 3:16AM EDT0

For me it is Ted Mosby from ´´How I met your Mother´´. I am not into this Poetic part that he plays in his series, but I am totally fascinated of his passion that he puts in his acting as an Architect. My favorite parts are the once when he really expresses his passion about the empire state building and his knowledge about all the details ( for example the amount of stairs the building has).

How do you protect the copyright for architectural plans and drawings?

Jul 3, 1:36AM EDT0

At the moment I am working at my father’s company and I don’t really have to protect my drawings ,because all of my drawings are owned by the company. Yet I know that a lot of architects put little hidden symbols in their drawings which are unique, so in case somebody publishes your work you have a prove that it is actually your work. This happens only if you do not have an official contract with your costumer that protects your drawings from stealing them. Most of the time a copyright is not necessary, since you are being assigned from a costumer, from the moment the costumer pays you for the project, the project isn’t yours anymore. Yet there are some cases where you agree. There might be other possibilities as well.

What are some examples of 3D modeling projects for beginners?

Jul 2, 10:00PM EDT1

As I started modelling in university for the first time, we had to do simple geometric forms like Cubes, Circles, and Triangles etc. After that the next step is combining them. After you are familiar with the basics you can start and form simple houses without materials just with adding and cutting geometric forms. If you type on YouTube ´´ 3D modelling for beginners´´ you will find some good tutorials that show you how to get started.

Can you explain the difference between 2D and 3D?

Jul 2, 7:54PM EDT0

Hi Matthew,

This is a good general question. First you have to understand that the ´´D´´ stands for Dimension.

2D means you are drawing or looking at 2 Dimensions. Those 2 Dimensions are Height and Width. If you are drawing in 3D (3 dimensions) besides Height and Width there is also the third dimension which is Depth. If you need further explanations please ask me anything you need to know. I can also search and provide you some good videos that explain it very well with visual examples.

What is the difference between an architect and a drafter?

Jul 2, 1:02PM EDT0

A drafter is a person who makes the technical detailed drawings of specific parts of a project. They will draw for example the details of a foundation, or a wall etc. Architects are responsible for the ideas, organization of space, creativity etc. The advantage of an Architect is that they are also schooled to draw details. Yet drafters are more specialized in that field and will provide better technical solutions.

How would you design your ideal architect studio?

Jul 2, 10:02AM EDT0

My ideal Design studio would be designed for group work. There would be no private offices for single architects. It would be principle of the ´´round table´´ and everyone would have an equal amount of work to submit. Yet in my opinion there has to be one chief architect who supervises the whole process.

What do you know about the company that makes ArchiCAD?

Jul 2, 8:11AM EDT0

I don’t know much about the company politics. What I can tell about Graphisoft is that they are very dedicated on what they do. The updates are very on time, and anytime I have to deal with license extensions they are even faster than they promise. Also the updates they do per year are very helpful. Archicad 20 is a drawing program that I can suggest to everyone.

How can you use ArchiCAD software for visualization?

Jul 1, 7:42PM EDT0

Archicad was first developed for 2D drawings and was very weak when it came to 3D visualisation. Nowdays archicad has a good rendering engine. You can use archicad for visualizing anything in 2D or 3D.

What kind of organizations typically hire 3D artists?

Jul 1, 10:04AM EDT0

Mostly architecture Offices, but lately they are also beeing hired but movie studios, marketing, gaming etc. you can hire 3D artist in any field where you need to visualize anything.

How does software make the job of an architect easier?

Jul 1, 10:03AM EDT0

If you think about 15-20years in the past, every drawing of an architect was handmade. Imagine drawing the whole night, then after the presentation to your costumer he wants some changes. To make bigger changes you had to draw it all over again. Today with the avaliable software you can do the changes within some clicks. Also if you had to draw sections and perspectives from a project, they had all to be done manually per hand. In archicad, as soon as you start drawing a ground plan in 2D, the software generates it as a 3D as well, so you draw in a groundplan but the sections and the views will be generated parallell to your drawing.

How does geometry figure into 3D modeling science?

Jul 1, 6:58AM EDT0

Well... it is all about geometry, every form you draw starts either with a line, squar or a circle. Geometry is present everywhere in modeling.
